Applications and Uses for Ultraweld® Wire Termination to a Formed Terminal: Brief #15
The application described here is an example of how the many benefits of ultrasonic welding have been applied to improve productivity and quality.
END USE: Appliances, automotive and electronics. It produces a reliable connection in critical circuits by ultrasonically welding copper lead wire in the formed barrel of the terminal.
MATERIALS: The terminal material is thin gauge beryllium copper. As it is spring hard, crimping is not a suitable connection method.
EQUIPMENT: The terminal is automatically fed from a continuous reel into a specially tooled Ultraweld ® 20. The system provides automatic strip feed, contact cut-off and ultrasonic welding of the assembly.
PRODUCTIVITY: This machine produces over 2000 parts per hour for the customer with excellent reliability.
ADVANTAGES: Ultrasonic welding provides the highest quality connection, the lowest operation cost, and eliminates the enormous tool maintenance required by resistance welding.
